How we do decks, fences and patios

Built for heat and sun

Summer heat in the Valley dries and checks unprotected wood fast. We use fasteners rated for treated lumber, leave gaps for movement, and seal the wood so it weathers evenly instead of splitting.

Roof decks

A roof deck sits on top of your waterproofing, so the deck is only as good as the roof under it. We build on sleepers or pedestals that never puncture the membrane, and we design the railing to the height the code requires.

Decks, fences and patios questions

Do I need a permit for a deck in Modesto?

Decks attached to the house or raised more than 30 inches above the ground generally need one, and fences over a certain height do too. We check the rule for your address and pull the permit when it is needed.

What wood is best for a fence here?

Cedar and redwood hold up well and look good for years with a sealer. Pressure treated pine costs less. We will price both so you can compare.

Can you build a roof deck?

Yes. The photos on this page include roof decks we built with wood decking and cable railing.
